If you don't know the total number of words to be translated, don't worry. You can easily calculate them below.  Use one of the following four methods as a tool:

Method 1:

If the text to be translated is available as an electronic (computer) file, follow these instructions to obtain electronic word counts from the most common software programs:

Microsoft Word  /  PowerPoint  /  PDF Documents
QuarkXPress  /  FrameMaker  /  PageMaker

Method 2:

If the text is relatively short and you can Copy/Paste it in the box below, do so and click on the Count Words button.


Method 3:

If you cannot use Methods 1 or 2 and you know the total number of pages, just enter this number in the "Total Pages" box below and then click the Calculate button. This method considers that one typed English-language page contains approximately 250 words. Please note that this is an estimate only and that the actual cost will be based on the word count calculated from your source (original) document.

Microsoft Word:
  1. Open the document in Microsoft Word
  2. Go to the "Tools" menu
  3. Choose the "Word Count" function

PowerPoint:
  1. Open the document in PowerPoint
  2. Go to the "File" menu
  3. Choose "Properties"
  4. Click on the "Statistics" tab

PDF Documents (Adobe Acrobat Version 5.0):
  1. Open the document in Adobe Acrobat (full version only, not Acrobat Reader)
  2. Go to the "File" menu
  3. Choose "Save As"
  4. In the 'Save as type' drop-down menu, choose "Rich Text Format (RTF)"
  5. Click the "Save" button
  6. Open up your new RTF document in Microsoft Word
  7. Go to the "Tools" menu
  8. Choose the "Word Count" function

QuarkXPress:
  1. Open the document in QuarkXPress
  2. Go to the "Utilities" menu
  3. Choose "Check Spelling"
  4. Choose "Document"
  5. The word count will be given before spell checker begins

  1. Open the document in FrameMaker
  2. Go to the "File" menu
  3. Choose the "Utilities" function
  4. Choose the "Document Reports" function
  5. Choose "Word Count"
  6. Press the "Run" button

  3. Choose the "Plug-ins" function
  4. Choose the "Word Counter" function
